Over 100 Air Ambulance service missions took place in the Shannonside region last year. Figures released by Tánaiste and Minister for Defence Simon Harris show 118 missions were undertaken in the region last year. Roscommon saw the highest number of missions by the air ambulance service locally last year with 53.
Meanwhile, there were 38 carried out in Longford and 27 in Leitrim last year. Local Senator Gareth Scahill says the figures show the importance of having the air ambulance service based in Athlone:
