There are six times as many women serving as primary school teachers in the Shannonside region as men.
New figures have been released by the Education Minister.
These new figures, from Minister Hildegarde Naughton, reveal 84 per cent of the country's primary school teachers are female and 16 per cent are male.
For the Shannonside region, even fewer are male - they make up just 14 per cent of the total.
Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon has 199 male primary school teachers and 1,205 female.
In each of the three counties, around six times as many are women as men.
In Leitrim, there are 36 men and 257 women, with 67 men and 390 women in Longford, and 96 men and 558 women in Roscommon.
The ratio isn't as extreme at secondary level, with roughly twice as many female teachers as male.
