Only 12pc of farm owners in Longford and Roscommon are women

Only one in every eight farm owners in Longford and Roscommon are women.

CSO figures show almost 88 per cent are men and only 12 per cent are women.

15.4 per cent of farmer owners in Leitrim are women - just over the national average of 13 per cent.

Roscommon councillor and farmer, Liam Callaghan, says there are several reasons why the figures are so low.
