In December, it was revealed a design team will be appointed by March to begin planning a new 50-bed acute inpatient psychiatric unit in Roscommon.

The Mental Health Minister has not committed to funding for a new psychiatric unit in Roscommon.

The revelation comes as Minister Mary Butler was quizzed over the status of a new psychiatric unit at Cavan General Hospital in the Dáil.

In her response, the Minister named-checked Roscommon as one of the proposed projects.

Almost €1.6 billion was allocated to the mental health sector in Budget 2026.

While not committing to who has been successful, Minister Butler says the work being done cannot go unnoticed:
