New housing development in Carrick approved despite pollution concerns

They're planned for the Longford side of the town.

Planners have given the green light for 12 houses to be built in Carrick-on-Shannon - despite concerns about air and noise pollution.
They're planned for the Longford side of the town.
Deirdre O'Meara applied for planning permission for 12 houses on the Marina Road in Attirory - four four-beds and eight three-beds.
Two submissions were lodged - both from residents in the nearby Priors Point development.
One resident said they were very concerned about air pollution during construction.
They said construction sites are a well-known producer of significant amounts of air pollution, which negatively impact humans and the environment.

They said they've already been exposed to air pollution for the past two years and have been forced to close windows to try to prevent it entering their home.
They said they've also experienced significant noise pollution for the past two years, due to heavy goods machinery and building works nearby.
They said they fear a repeat if permission is granted.
But Leitrim County Council has granted permission, subject to 20 conditions.
