New Garda figures show burglary levels remain low locally

New figures from An Garda Síochána show burglary levels locally remain at some of the lowest rates in the State during the latest winter phase of Operation Thor.
Launched in 2015, the aim of Operation Thor is to tackle the traditional rise in burglaries during the darker winter months.
The Garda North Western Region, which includes Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon, recorded an average of just two residential burglaries per day between the first of October and the end of March this year.
Nationally, residential burglaries were down 14 per cent on the previous winter phase, with just over 2,600 incidents reported.

Gardaí say that is the lowest winter-time level in six years.
Overall, the region accounted for 12 per cent of all burglary incidents nationwide.
Across the country during the six-month operation, Gardaí made almost 1,000 arrests for burglary and related offences nationally, averaging five arrests every day.
More than 2,200 charges and summonses were also issued.
