N61 upgrade delays 'will remove backbone' from Roscommon, says Councillor

Cllr Laurence Fallon claims Transport Infrastructure Ireland now have plans to upgrade the Ballymahon to Sligo route instead.

A Roscommon councillor says there are fears the backbone will be removed from the county due to the lack of progress in upgrading the N61. Cllr Laurence Fallon claims Transport Infrastructure Ireland now have plans to upgrade the Ballymahon to Sligo route instead. There was criticism of the TII in recent weeks following its reply to safey concerns at junctions on the main Roscommon to Athlone route. It followed a request for the agency to restore the continuous white line between Purts junction and Kiltoom Cemetery and also both sides of the Barrybeg junction.

Cllr Fallon says the N61 is the backbone of Roscommon and an upgrade of the route is now long overdue. Speaking to Shannonside News, he said the project was critically important for County Roscommon:
