Roscommon County Council is holding their annual budget meeting in the local authority’s headquarters in Roscommon town.
An €86m budget is set to be officially signed off on shortly.
In his address to councillors this morning, Roscommon County Council chief executive Shane Tiernan confirmed an 8 per cent increase on last year’s Budget.
Some of the areas he focused on in his address included the planning and development of the iRos sports centre in Roscommon town, Public Realm works in Strokestown and a new state of the art 24/7 Library in Boyle.
Tiernan also confirmed the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge bypass is currently ahead of schedule.
Over €32m in this year’s budget has been set aside for road transport and safety, just over €13m for housing and building and around €7m spending for recreation and amenity.
A 5 per cent increase in commercial rates is also set to be signed off on by councillors this afternoon.
But those with rates bills of less than €20,000 – which is 96 per cent of businesses – will have this waived.
A Capital Programme spend of €442m between 2026 and 2028 was also confirmed at the meeting with €415m of that coming from state grants and subsidies.
Councillors are currently giving their thoughts on the budget.
Independent Cllr Tom Crosby once again repeated his call for the new iRos sports centre to be located away from Roscommon Town.
Finally, A tourism budget increase of €135,000 has also been set aside for 2026.
