Much-loved local radio presenter to be laid to rest today

Eugene Murphy and Frank Feighan are among those paying tribute.

A former Shannonside Northern Sound presenter will be laid to rest later this morning.

Carthage Kidney was a native of Rahan, Co Offaly.

Carthage first joined Shannonside FM in the summer of 1989.

He was the presenter of the hugely popular programme from the November of that year, gaining thousands of listeners.

The late Mr Kidney is survived by his wife Betty, son Gerard and daughter Majella.

His funeral mass will take place this morning at St Carthage's Church in Killina at 10am.

Burial will follow in Rahan Cemetery.

Eugene Murphy worked alongside him in Shannonside FM and is expressing his condolences to his family – he remembers Carthage’s Sunday show well.
