Councillor Mary Bohan has become the cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council for the fifth time.
She succeeded Paddy Farrell in the one-year role at the council’s AGM in Carrick-on-Shannon this afternoon.
Fianna Fáil councillor Bohan, from Drumkeerin, was proposed by her party colleague, Justin Warnock, and seconded by Fine Gael’s Enda McGloin, and deemed elected, with no other nomination.
Councillor Warnock has been elected as leas-cathaoirleach.
Councillor Bohan will be paid an allowance of €20,000 and Councillor Warnock will get €4,000.
Councillor Bohan says it's a great honour to take on the role and she'll do her best to promote the county.
She says housing is the main issue in Co Leitrim and that will be one of her priorities.
