Much-loved Cavan priest to be laid to rest today

Fr Anthony J Fagan passed away on Tuesday at Cavan General Hospital.

A much-loved County Cavan priest will be laid to rest later today.

Fr Anthony J Fagan passed away on Tuesday at Cavan General Hospital.

The late Fr Anthony J Fagan was born in Bailieboro, Co Cavan and received his early education in the local boys’ National School and Ballinamoney National School before attending St Patrick’s College, Cavan, and later St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, where he studied for the priesthood.

He was ordained to the priesthood in the Cathedral of Saints Patrick and Felim, Cavan, on June 8, 1975.

In September 2015 he became Parish Priest of Drumlease, continuing his faithful service until his appointment as Parish Priest of Knockbride in 2019 before retiring in September 2023.

Fr Anthony was also a Board member of Shannonside Northern Sound.

CEO Fiona Stack paid tribute to the commitment he had shown to the stations and to staff and said his vision, support and kindness had been central to the development of Shannonside and Northern Sound.

His funeral mass is taking place at 12 noon in St. Annes Church, Ballieborough with burial afterwards in St Anne's Cemetery.
