Hospital management informed staff that the MRI Unit would close its doors this week despite HSE approval for the recruitment of staff to operate the service.

The provision of MRI services at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar has hit an unexpected roadblock. Hospital management informed staff that the MRI Unit would close its doors this week despite HSE approval for the recruitment of staff to operate the service. Local Fianna Fail TD Robert Troy has branded the development as extremely regrettable and has confirmed that he has raised the issue with the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly.

The provision of the service has seen a massive public campaign and fundraising, that resulted in a purpose built new building to house the imaging technology. Deputy Troy has stated that it is his hope that the issue will be resolved rapidly:
