Motorists warned of significant delays due to N61 works

A speed limit of 60 kilometres an hour is in place for the duration of the works and a stop/go system is also in place.

Roscommon County Council says motorists on the N61 can expect delays for the remainder of the roadworks project between Barrymore and Athlone.

The works to address safety concerns on the road began in early October and it was anticipated the project could take three months.

It's part of the Athlone North Pavement project, as well as the installation of a filter lane and island under the Barrybeg road safety improvement scheme.

Motorists on the route have complained of significant delays in recent days and the local authority says the delays can be expected until mid-December.
