Motorists warned of road closures in Athlone ahead of Custume Barracks event

The Defence Forces are hoping to keep disruption to a minimum.

Motorists in Athlone are being warned of some road closures this morning for the 100th-anniversary celebrations of Custume Barracks.

A parade will take place from Burgess Park, up Church Street and across the Shannon Bridge for 11 o'clock this morning, the exact time the barracks was handed over on the 28th of February in 1922.

The national flag will be raised at Athlone Castle where a local actor will deliver the speech made by Commandant General Sean Mac Eoin on the day.
