A motorist is due in court after being caught exceeding the speed limit in the Sligo-Leitrim area.
The driver was detected travelling at 200 km/h in a 100 km/h zone earlier this week.
They were subsequently arrested and is expected to appear in court.
As of today 18 people have lost their lives on the road in 2026.
Speed remains one of the leading causes of the serious and fatal collisions on Irish roads.
Gardaí are reminding drivers to slow down especially in current difficult driving conditions.
