Motorist caught travelling 40 km/h over the speed limit locally

A motorist has been caught travelling 40 kilometres per hour over the speed limit near Athlone.

The detection was made as part of a nationwide bank holiday clampdown.

The driver was clocked travelling at 120 kilometres per hour in a 80 kilometres per hour zone on the R390 at Walderstown.

The Garda Roads Policing Operation is in place until 7am on Tuesday.
