A Palestinian woman living in Roscommon says it 'feels like a dream' after her 75-year-old mother was granted safe passage from Gaza. Sherín Al Shabbagh, who lives in Ballaghaderreen, had fought for a visa for her mother Najwa since fighting broke in in 2023.

Najwa, a retired teacher, was finally reunited with her daughter for the first time in five years on Good Friday last. Sherín, an Irish citizen who works as a translator and tutor, said her mother faced a gruelling journey from the wartorn enclave:
