Consumer spending via mobile wallet card payments has almost doubled across the Shannonside Northern Sound region in the past year, according to the latest figures from the Central Bank.
The data, which covers October 2022 to June 2023, shows that more people are using their phones to pay for goods in Roscommon, Leitrim, Longford, Cavan and Monaghan.
Nationally, a total of €6.8 billion per month was spent through card transactions including withdrawals during the period.

This represents an average volume of 162 million card transactions per month, according to the Central Bank.
