A midlands based detective who was suspended after he loaned a bike to a farmer is to receive over €250,000 in damages. The Irish Examiner are reporting that the case was settled in the high court around two weeks ago with a confidentiality agreement. The Garda in question was suspended for around 3 years for giving a pensioner a bike during Covid.
The case was criminally investigated and a file was sent to the DPP. However, they directed not to press charges. The state have agreed to pay the detective more than €270,000 including his legal costs.
