Ballintubber’s Michael Holland Senior is to replace Anthony Waldron on Roscommon County Council.
The alliance that controls the local authority is backimg him.
Long-serving councillor Anthony Waldron, from Ballintubber, died in February at the age of 64.
It left a vacant seat on the council in the Roscommon Municipal District.
The council sought nominations from the public to replace him.
Four people put themselves forward – Monksland’s Ernie Draper, Ballintubber’s Michael Holland Senior, Donamon’s Mairead Kenny and Ballintubber’s Gail Murray.
The 17 councillors in Co Roscommon will vote on the successful candidate on Monday – and they’ll then take their position.
Shannonside FM understands the alliance that controls the council – involving Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and three Independents, Tom Crosby, Emer Kelly and Laurence Fallon – will back Michael Holland Senior, who is supported by the Waldron family.
They have 12 members, meaning Holland is comfortably on course to become a councillor next Monday.
