MEP wants local authority to work with Europe on vacant buildings

The European Commission will announce funding this week to set up new circular economy and research projects in Ireland.

A local MEP is calling for Longford County Council to work closely with the European Commission to repurpose vacant buildings. The Commission will announce funding this week to set up new circular economy and research projects in Ireland. Lanesboro native and Midlands North-West MEP Ciaran Mullooly has highlighted that this funding could be allocated to the redevelopment of derelict buildings in Co. Longford. He noted a number of derelict buildings which could be revitalised, including the Lough Ree power station in Lanesboro and the vacant shopping centre in Longford Town.

MEP Mullooly stressed it's up to the council to enable the redevelopment of these buildings:
