Leitrim's longest-serving councillor is set to become the cathaoirleach of its county council today.
Fianna Fáil's Mary Bohan will replace Paddy Farrell, while Kinlough councillor Justin Warnock, also from Fianna Fáil, will become leas-cathaoirleach.
Councillor Farrell has been the cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council for the past year.
His term will end at the local authority's annual general meeting in Carrick-on-Shannon this afternoon.
As part of a coalition arrangement, Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and some independents control the council.
It’s been agreed privately Councillor Bohan will succeed Farrell today.
She will hold the role for one year and be paid an allowance of €20,000.
The Drumkeerin woman has been a councillor for the past 47 years.
