Martin compares Trump to famous local Taoiseach during Oval Office visit

The Taoiseach described how figures such as Albert Reynolds and John Hume were also criticised for their work in the peace process in the North.

The Taoiseach compared US President Donald Trump to a former Longford Taoiseach during their meeting in the Oval Office yesterday.

When discussing the Ukraine/Russia peace negotiations, Micheál Martin compared it to the peace process in Ireland in the 90s.

He paid tribute to President Trump in relation to negotiations and described how former Fianna Fail Taoiseach and local man Albert Reynolds had been criticised for his work seeking peace.

Speaking in the Oval Office, the Taoiseach stated that at the end of the day, the aim was to silence the guns in the conflict:
