Man jailed for four years over fatal Roscommon crash last year

Lorry driver Shaun Curran of Middle Dore, Bunbeg in Co Donegal, was today jailed for five years with the final twelve months suspended, for dangerous driving causing death.

A man has been jailed for four years in relation to a crash in Roscommon in which a local club footballer was killed.

Rian Sheridan, 24, played Gaelic football for Kilbride GAA club in Fourmilehouse and regularly visited the area.

He was a native of Cluainluáin, Renvyle, Co Galway.

He was driving a car which was involved in a collision with a lorry on the Athlone Road at Newtown, near Ballymurray, at 10pm on March 27 last year.

He was taken to Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe, where he was pronounced dead.

Shaun Curran, 32, was also disqualified from driving for seven years.
