A man in his 80s has died after a fire at a house in County Westmeath. It happened in the Gilbertstown area of Castlepollard at around 1 o'clock this morning. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene and his body was removed to the mortuary in Mullingar
A post mortem examination is due to take place. Gardaí are investigating - however it's understood foul play is not suspected. This fire comes just a day after two people died in a house fire in County Galway.
