A man has died following an extensive house fire in County Roscommon. Gardaí were called to the scene at the Oaks housing estate in Frenchpark shortly after 7 o'clock last night. The alert was raised after reports of an explosion which caused significant damage to the house and an adjacent property while a number of neighbouring houses have suffered material damage.
The body of a man has been removed from the house, and taken to University Hospital Galway for post-mortem exam. The scene remains sealed off this morning for a technical examination and enquiries are ongoing. Councillor Sean Moylan has been reacting to the news:
