A man in his 30s who was charged earlier this year with the rape of an elderly woman has appeared before Longford District Court.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, was further charged yesterday afternoon.
The man was charged with one count or rape under section 48 of the Offences Against a Persons Act, 1861, and two counts of rape under section 4 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act, 1990.
Detective Garda Rachel Duignan gave evidence of further charges, including the theft of €25 from the victim, trespass with the intent to rape the woman, attempted rape of the victim, and sexual assault.
It is alleged that the rapes occurred on February 25th 2025, at the home of the victim.
The accused was unemployed and on social welfare at the time.
Sergeant Enda Daly indicated that a book of evidence should be ready by next week.
Judge Owens remanded the accused in custody to July 22nd.
