A major bog fire threatening forestry in Drumlish has been brought under control this afternoon.
The fire on Bohey Bog was notified to the emergency services yesterday evening at 8.30, with fire service units from across the county attending.
The fire was extinguished last night but re-ignited this morning and spread rapidly due to the dry conditions and rising wind.
Local Senator and farmer Paraic Brady visited the scene of the fire today and warned that if immediate action was not taken, it would spread to neighbouring forestry and bog-land.
The Drumlish man warned that if this happened then the region would be facing a critical wild fire incident.
Members of Longford Fire Service attended the scene at 1pm today and began tackling the worst of the blaze.
