Planning permission is being sought for a major extension at a Roscommon school.
An application for upgrade works proposed for Roscommon Community College has been submitted to county planners.
Planning permission is being sought for the demolition of five outbuildings and fire safety upgrades to the existing school block in the Ardnanagh area.
An application submitted by David Leahy is proposing to construct a 21-classroom extension to its west gable, which will include 5 SEN classrooms, admin offices, GP hall and associated ancillary spaces.
It will also comprise a standalone PE hall and changing block, sporting facilities and ball courts, and a separate single storey, 9-classroom school building to the west of the site to accommodate the relocation of Gaelscoil de hÍde.
This will see alterations to the existing junction of Thornfield Drive and St. Theresa's Road, the provision of new vehicular and pedestrian access with revised parking and set down, as well as upgrade works to the existing site exit.
The submission also proposes the removal of 10 prefabricated classrooms once all other works have been completed.
Roscommon county planners have received the application and are due to make a decision by December.
