The Garda cold case unit are set to look into the suspicious death of Leitrim man Liam Farrell. The 87-year-old was found dead outside his house in Rooskey in January 2020. In a major development this afternoon, the Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly has now requested that a cold case review of the investigation be carried out. The Farrell family met with Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan earlier this month to outline their calls for an investigation into the case to be launched.
Minister O'Callaghan told the Farrell's during that meeting that he deemed their father's death to be 'suspicious'. The Justice Minister has subsequently met the Garda Commissioner in relation to the case. Following those discussions, a cold case review is now set to be launched by the Serious Crime Review Team in the coming weeks. Liam's son Peter has welcomed the news:
Another son, Willie, says he hopes there will now be justice in his dad's case.
