Mairéad McGuinness nominated as Fine Gael's candidate for presidential election

Mairéad McGuinness has been officially nominated as Fine Gael's candidate in the presidential election. The former EU commissioner was the only candidate put forward when the party's nomination process closed at 4 o'clock this evening.

In a letter to Fine Gael members, she said "the campaign, when it starts, will be full-on".
