Lough Ree RNLI deployed to serious incidents over June Bank Holiday

The volunteer service is asking people to take every safety precaution when they're heading out on water during the busy holiday season

Lough Ree RNLI attended two serious incidents on the water over the June Bank Holiday weekend.

The rescue service was first called into action on Friday afternoon as part of a multi-agency response team including Gardaí and the HSE. The RNLI transferred a casualty with a broken leg from a cruiser at Strand Quay to a waiting ambulance where the German tourist was taken to Portiuncula hospital for treatment.

On Sunday, the crew responded to a call for assistance from a cruiser with 6 people aboard that had run aground on the Hexagon Shoal. Following an assessment it was discovered the boat was taking on water, resulting in the 6 adults and their 2 dogs being transferred to the lifeboat to be brought ashore. Lough Ree RNLI are reminding those heading out on the water in the good weather to wear life jackets, follow navigation markers and always have emergency numbers to hand.
