Longford Womens Link CEO says severe consequences needed to tackle male violence

The murder of young Offaly woman Aisling Murphy as she jogged on the canal bank in Tullamore yesterday afternoon has caused huge shock and anger

The CEO of Longford Women's Link says major changes in the Criminal Justice System are needed to tackle male violence.

Tara Farrell was commenting today on the death of Offaly woman Aisling Murphy who died after being violently assaulted while out jogging yesterday afternoon.

Speaking on the Let's Talk show this afternoon, the Women's Link CEO says rather than talking about what women can do to stay safe, the focus needs to go on the perpetrators, and the issue of male violence.

Tara Farrell says one of the major concerns in the campaign to tackle this issue is the lack of appropriate sentences in the criminal justice system.
