The restrictions were initially going to apply to towns with a population of over 10,000 - but that's now been increased to 20,000.

Longford town will be exempt from new laws aimed at curbing short-term lets and Airbnb.

The Irish Independent is reporting the clampdown has been significantly watered down by the government.

This means Longford town, where almost almost 11,000 people live, will be excluded.
