Longford Senator says council should take the lead on litter problems

It comes as the most recent IBAL report revealed Longford Town has lost its 'clean' status and has dropped to 'moderately littered.'

A Longford senator says the local authority does not take the town clean-up challenge 'seriously enough.' It comes as the most recent IBAL report revealed Longford Town has lost its 'clean' status and has plummeted to 'moderately littered.' Longford ranked 30th out of a total of 40 areas surveyed, with Congress Terrace found to be the most littered area of the town. The report praised Market Square, however it was let down by a 'casually discarded litter presence.' Longford senator Joe Flaherty says that local authorities need to take a more active leadership role on the issue:

Elsewhere, Roscommon Town has regained it's clean status following the report. The town is now ranked 23rd out of 40 towns and cities across Ireland. Kathleen Shanagher from Roscommon Tidy Towns says co-operation with local businesses is key to keeping the area clean:
