A number of properties in county Longford were searched as part a day of action targeting online fraud connected to a money laundering network. Searches were also carried out in counties Donegal and Louth. The searches were conducted by Gardaí attached to the Kilkenny Detective Unit on Tuesday.
During the course of the operation Gardaí seized 174 thousand sterling, seven thousand euro, a motor vehicle and a number of items of evidential value. Two men, one in their 30s and their 60s were arrested and are currently detained at a Garda Station in Kilkenny. On Wednesday, the National Crime Agency arrested three men, two in their 40s and one in his 60s and a woman in her 30s in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone in connection with the investigation.
