Longford mother appeals for help in finding accommodation after council house fire

Tara and her six year old daughter are currently staying with friends.

A single mother from Longford is appealing for help to find new accommodation after the Council house she was living in burned down last month.

Tara and her six year old daughter were alerted by a fire alarm to a blaze at their property on the sixth of September.

They managed to escape uninjured but are now staying with friends as they have not found any alternative accommodation suitable for their needs. Tara has confirmed that a place at a hostel in Mullingar was offered to them initially before alternative accommodation in Longford Town. However, Tara told the Joe Finnegan Show that they were discreetly advised not to move in there. She is now staying with friends and is hoping the County Council can find her a new home before Christmas.

"Hopefully something comes up, but it's hard this side of Christmas and the weeks are going so quick. It's hard when you have a child who has anxiety and epilepsy. They're asking questions about the house and little questions like, what house will Santa be coming to"?
