Longford is Ireland's cheapest place to buy a home for joint first-time buyers

Longford was revealed to be the most affordable place for joint first-time buyers for the third consecutive year.

Counties in the Shannonside region are among the most affordable places for first-time buyers and sole purchasers.

The research by price comparison service Switcher.ie has shown the cheapest and most expensive areas for joint and sole buyers based on how long it would take to save for a deposit in each region.

The calculations are based on median annual earnings, median property prices and household savings rates from the Central Statistics Office.

Longford was revealed to be the most affordable place for joint first-time buyers for the third consecutive year.

Property prices there stood at €224,000.

County Leitrim stood in second at €245,000 and €260,000 in Roscommon.

County Roscommon is the most affordable for sole buyers, where it takes three years and five months to save for a deposit.

Leitrim purchasers are waiting four years and four months with five years the wait time in Longford.
