Gardaí have issued a renewed appeal over a case of attempted murder in Longford town last year.
The victim, a man in his 70s, received hospital treatment and survived his injuries.
On the 17th of July 2024, Gardaí were alerted to an incident of attempted murder at the Springlawn Estate in Longford Town.
At approximately 7:45pm, a navy blue BMW 3 series car, with Northern Ireland/Great Britan registration plates, entered the Springlawn estate, and stopped outside the victim's house, while local children were playing in the area.
As the car stopped, a male suspect carrying a sawn-off shotgun got out of the front passenger seat and approached the driveway of the house, while a rear seat passenger held up a mobile phone as if recording the incident.
After the incident, the suspects drove away at speed and travelled to a laneway of a nearby farm at Fallon's Hardware, where they set the car on fire.
Gardaí later recovered the vehicle and found it to be completely destroyed.
The 74-year-old male victim received hospital treatment for his injuries and is continuing his recovery.
Longford Gardaí are acknowledging the public's support in their investigation of the incident, and are asking any witnesses to make contact with them.
They are appealing for any information that may assist them in the investigation, including the names of the suspects, CCTV or mobile phone footage.
