Longford County Council have approved new draft bye-laws aimed at regulating headstone height and the use of artificial flowers at council-owned graveyards.
At present, the local authority has restrictions on the maximum size of memorial permitted.
Under the regulations the height of any headstone on a place of burial cannot exceed 1.2 metres above the ordinary level of the surrounding ground.
There is an exception to allow a Celtic Cross that does not exceed 2.5 metres.
