A Longford Councillor who yesterday narrowly failed in her bid to win a Fianna Fáil Seanad nomination will continue to work towards bringing diversity

A Longford Councillor who yesterday narrowly failed in her bid to win a Fianna Fáil Seanad nomination will continue to work towards bringing diversity to the Dail and Seanad.

That's according to Fianna Faíl Councillor Uruemu Adejinmi, following an internal Seanad Bye-Election vote last night that saw her reach the last stage of eliminations.

Former Senator Gerry Horkan, who's father is from Strokestown, emerged as the nominee for the vacant seat on the Industrial and Commercial Panel.

Councillor Adejimni says if the opportunity presents itself she will put herself forward for a seat in the Seanád and Dail.

She says generations of new Irish citizens and minority groups across the country need to be represented with more diversity:
