Longford councillor says Providers building won't be used to house refugees

A post, shared by a local anti-IPAS group, claimed an application for a planning exemption had been granted for the property.

A landmark commercial premises in Longford will not be used for refugee accommodation according to a town councillor. The statement comes following claims on social media that the former Providers Building on Main Street in Longford Town was being sought for the housing of refugees. The building, which is owned by Longford County Council has been for sale for close to three years. Addressing the rumours online, town based Fianna Fail Councillor Kevin Hussey says that there is absolutely no truth to the story. Councillor Hussey has been speaking to Daniel Considine:
