A Longford councillor says the county remains the 'poor relation' when it comes to healthcare services. Cllr Peggy Nolan was speaking after the HSE confirmed that an ophthalmologist would be seeing both adult and paediatric patients just one day each per week. Regional Hospital Mullingar confirmed this week that a once weekly eyecare clinic for adults has been in place since July of this year. The current set up will continue for the month of October before a further day is added for younger patients. Cllr Nolan says this is unacceptable and means some patients must travel to Athlone for treatment:
