The Cathaoirleach of the Longford Municipal District is calling for the creation of a student work placement programme in the county's local authority.
Councillor Uruemu Adejinmi discussed the issue at a recent meeting of Longford County Council as part of a plan to build the interest of younger people in local government and politics.
The plan would see students exposed to the different work undertaken by the council in the area of housing, government, roads and enterprise as well as the effects the work has on communities.
