Longford council urged to stop using commercial premises for social housing

The Fine Gael representative has warned the move could contribute to higher levels of anti-social behaviour.

A local councillor is calling on Longford County Council to stop purchasing commercial premises in Longford town for social housing use. Councillor Gerry Hagan says Longford town centre already has a significant number of social housing units, with no clear evidence of unmet demand.

He has also raised concerns about the potential disruption to existing businesses, including increased noise, traffic, and parking issues. The Fine Gael representative has warned the move could contribute to higher levels of anti-social behaviour and drug abuse in the town centre.
