The Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council has described his skepticism over plans for a new major windfarm in Longford. Bord na Móna Powergen Limited are seeking to construct 22 wind turbines on lands close to Lanesboro in Longford. The turbines, which would have a blade tip height of 190 metres would be located across 34 townlands in the area. Bord na Móna Powergen are also proposing to over 7 and half kilometres of amenity access tracks from windfarm sites onto the Royal Canal Greenway, Corlea Trackway and the Midlands Trail Network.
As part of this section of the plan, the developers would construct three permanent amenity car parks, with 19 spaces each. Local Councillor Mark Casey says that the plans must be carefully considered to ensure the local environment is unharmed by any development:
