A local waste facility has been closed by the Health and Safety Authority. Westmeath County Council confirmed the temporary closure of the Barna waste facility in Athlone this morning. It's expected to remain closed this week with potential reopening on December 8th subject to HSA approval.
A statement from the local authority said the closure was not an action of Westmeath County Council. It said alternative arrangements are in place and the council's amenity site at Golden Island is available for domestic users. Westmeath County Council said it would continue to provide updates as they become available.
