Local walking trails to benefit from funding

This funding is being provided to resurface, re-route and enhance walking trails.

60 thousand euro has been allocated to walking and hiking trails in the Shannonside region.

The announcement, made by the Minister for Rural and Community Development is part of a larger national pool of 485 thousand euro.

The investment is designed to ensure that these trails are maintained to a high standard, benefitting local communities and alike.

Two projects have been approved in Leitrim and four in Roscommon with all receiving 10 thousand euro.

In Leitrim, remedial and development works will be carried out at Bóthar Na Naomh trail in Cloone.

While trail resurfacing and fencing will connect the Leitrim way with St Bridget's Holy Well.

In Roscommon, the boardwalk at Knockvicar looped bog walk will be replaced with stone.

Levels will be raised at Killtullagh Church Walk with rail enhancements and timber gates replaced on Ballintubber Rambling Loop.

New benches and an enhancement of the path at Tarmon Bog Walk.
