Longford, Athlone and Roscommon have been identified as hubs in the new National Cycle Network Plan. A new network of 85 cycling corridors around the country has been launched. Ireland's first National Cycle Network Plan will link cities and towns of over 5 thousand people, and total 3 thousand 500 kilometres in length.

Longford, Mullingar and Athlone have been identified as primary hubs in the roll out, with Roscommon and Ballinasloe selected as secondary hubs. Dr. Damien Ó Tuama, National Cycling Coordinator with cyclist.ie, says these corridors are already taking form in Longford, Roscommon and Westmeath.
