Two local TDs have called on the Government to introduce legislation to address trees falling onto power lines. Sinn Féin has sought to amend the Forestry Act 2014 to provide for the management of critical infrastructure corridors within forestry lands.
Under the proposed legislation, critical infrastructure would include water mains, gas pipelines and electricity lines across a range of voltage capacities. Party agriculture spokesperson and Sligo-Leitrim TD, Martin Kenny, says the proposal should receive support from all sides of the Dáil:
